Saying Goodbye to Ship: Product Hunt Streamlines Product Launches
December 08, 2022Today, Product Hunt has announced that it is sunsetting its Ship product, an early-access platform that allowed creators to build an engaged audience for their unreleased products. Ship was an innovative platform for creators, for the past two years allowing them to build pre-launch hype and early awareness around their unreleased products. With a focus on fostering feedback and deepening relationships with early adopters, Ship offered up a low-cost and easy way to start engaging a passionate audience in their work. However, Product Hunt has determined that they are better positioned to serve their customers through their traditional product launching service, rather than dealing with the complexities that come with developing another platform. “While many creators have benefitted greatly from the early feedback that Ship provides, we’ve determined that this focus is better addressed within the existing product launches we’re facilitating,” said Product Hunt co-founder and CTO Ryan Hoover. “By streamlining the feedback gathering process for both sides, Product Hunt enables an efficient launch process that’s easier to understand and manage from a broader perspective. For these reasons, we’ve decided to sunset Ship in the coming weeks.” In the coming weeks, all remaining Ship communities will be gradually closed, with the full migration process taking between 3 and 5 weeks. During this time, Product Hunt will still provide basic customer support. Once the migration is complete, all existing Ship customers will transition to using Product Hunt’s official product launching service, allowing them to post announcements, gather feedback, and reach their audiences. For more information on Product Hunt’s decision to sunset Ship, both current and future customers can visit the official Product Hunt website.
